Commission Wool Scour Services

Woolworks provides commissioned wool scour services to wool growers, manufacturers and exporters. We are the largest and most sophisticated wool scour facility in the world. Wool scouring is our primary business. We don’t trade wool, so we have no conflicts with our customers.

The scouring process

STEP 1

RAW WOOL

Raw wool is unloaded coated with grease as well as mud, seeds and thorns.

STEP 2

PRE-SCOUR TREATMENT

Wool is separated into lots and inspected. Non-wool contaminants (e.g. vegetable matter) are removed without damaging the fibre.

STEP 3

SCOURING

Wool is automatically conveyed through a scouring line (large bowls containing biogradable detergent). Contaminants, including wool grease are removed. Excess moisture is squeezed out.

STEP 6

PRESSING

Scoured wool is pressed (compacted), set into its final packaging and stored in warehouse.

STEP 5

QUALITY CONTROL

Wool is tested in-house and also sent for external certification.

STEP 4

DRYING

Wool is temperature controlled throughout the drying process and dried to an exact regime.
